ABOUT US
Colgate Playgroup was opened in 1969 and run voluntarily by local mothers. They met three days a week giving mothers and children of the village an opportunity to socialise.
In 1972 the playgroup registered with social services , it joined the Childcare register in 1992 and is managed by a committee of parents. In 1997 the name of the group was changed to Colgate Pre-school, this was encouraged to promote the educational purpose of Playgroups.
The Pre-school has also encountered many other changes since opening. Colgate Pre-school is now registered and inspected by Ofsted. We employ eleven members of staff; the Manager has a Master's Degree in Education, a First-class Honours Degree, Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) and is a Level 3 forest school leader. The Deputy Manager has a Level 6 degree and is also a Level 3 forest school leader. Another member of staff has a recognised Level 6 Early Years Degree, and one has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Three staff have an Early Years level 3, one a level 2 qualification and two are currently completing their Level 3 qualification. Three members of staff are also Level 2 Forest School Assistants.
All staff receive training in Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding and Prevent. They also have DBS and health clearance. The group is now open five days a week and cares for children aged 2-5 years, parents pay for each session their child attends or claim Early Years Education funding or two-year funding if eligible. The Pre-school is managed by a voluntary committee who employ the staff and are responsible for the financial security of the group.
The requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) are met. We operate a free flow enabling environment that covers the seven areas of learning both inside and outdoors. Each child has a key worker who is responsible for planning their individual development plan and completing their online learning journal. Parents are invited to meet with their key worker at least once a term to discuss their child’s progress.
Colgate Pre-school is committed to encouraging ‘learning through play’. Child initiated and adult led activities are balanced throughout the day. We believe in the value of play with a purpose and aim to help children develop academically, creatively, emotionally, physically and socially in a happy, stimulating and secure environment.
